About the brewery

JW Lees was founded by retired cotton manufacturer John Lees in 1828. JW Lees became most famous for cask ales, Mild and Bitter, brewed to satisfy thirsty Mancunians grafting in the workshop of the World. In more recent years the range has evolved and includes craft lagers, the legendary Vintage Harvest Ale and the experimental Boilerhouse beers that encompass the spirit of adventure inspired by John Lees nearly 200 years ago.

2021 Frothy tan collar on a dark brown still body. Malt, sherry & big boozed up aroma. Medium to full bodied, smooth & oily with a clean back. Syrup, sherry, jam, slightly musty, burnt g chocolate tastes with a big boozy finish. So complex - Excellent still at 20 years old!
No carbonation. Sherry & raisin on the nose. Sweet & gloopy malts. Liquid caramel, candied dried dark fruits, brown sugar & sherry to taste. Tinges of vanilla, mushroom & liquorice. Lightly spiced. Huge boozy warmth to the finish. Absolute perfection!
Complex, rich, strong and excellent. 20 years in the making but well worth the wait!
Honestly, this tasted like port! Took me by surprise and I loved it.
