About the brewery

A true Belgian family-run brewery, now led by the fourth generation. Tongerlo is bottle conditioned, an incredibly meticulous process that reveals the true craftsmanship of brewing, a technique Tongerlo’s Master Brewers have perfected over many, many years. Yeast is added just before Tongerlo is bottled; it is then stored for conditioning for at least two weeks at 22°C. After two weeks, Tongerlo’s Master Brewers taste the beers matured, rich and complex flavours, and only then the beer is approved for sale.

Tongerlo Bruin sounds like some kind of problematic name for a Grand National horse in 1973. However, the brewery overcame this and made a frankly smashing beer.

Frothy with a sweet vanilla nose. Flavour had very pronounced sweet vanilla and caramel notes, combined with milk chocolate, but with a hint of stone fruits, which was a surprise! Rich. Excellent
