About the winery

Bodegas San Antonio Abad’s winemaker, Jose Manuel Ortiz, has been with the business for more than 20 years, and knows this large, flat land with its distinctive reddish soil like the back of his hand. It’s this priceless experience of the land and its seasons that allows Jose Manuel to bring the grapes under his care to the perfect moment of ripeness year after year. This part of La Mancha has big skies and broad horizons, above soils characterised by Miocene sediments with a limestone structure. Temperatures are extreme due to its continental climate, ranging between -9º in the cold winter and 40º in the torrid summer. Dryness is another of its most pronounced characteristics, with a microclimate that prevents the entry of humid winds, resulting in very little rainfall (300 to 400 mm annually), but 3,000 hours of sunshine a year.
